Nurture: A Painting of Love, Loss, and Hope

My sister and me.

Creating "Nurture" has been a journey through the deepest corners of my heart, a canvas that holds the memories and emotions of a time when life was abruptly reshaped. My sister's battle with cancer was a defining chapter in my life. Diagnosed at the tender age of 36, she fought valiantly, but the battle ended all too soon at the age of 40. The pain of her loss remains, but it has transformed into a driving force behind my artistry.

Her Story, My Inspiration

My sister and I were young mothers at the time of her diagnosis. We were navigating the joys and challenges of motherhood, blissfully unaware of the struggles that lay ahead. We didn't know anyone with cancer, and we certainly didn't anticipate that we'd be thrust into this unforgiving world. Her journey, though tragically short, was marked by courage, resilience, and a love for life that has forever shaped my own.

"Cancer: Never Give Up"

The recognition of "Nurture" in the "Cancer: Never Give Up" juried show is more than an honor; it's a tribute to the strength of the human spirit. Each brushstroke in this painting echoes the courage I witnessed in my sister as she battled this relentless adversary. Through the painting, I pay homage to her and to countless others who've faced the same hardships.

Limited Edition Prints: Sharing Hope and Inspiration

To share this message of hope, I've made the decision to offer limited edition prints of "Nurture" on museum-quality fine art paper. It's my way of extending the reach of this emotional journey and, hopefully, inspiring others to find strength in their own battles.

Supporting "The Healing Garden"

A part of the proceeds from each print will be donated to "The Healing Garden," an organization that supports individuals facing cancer. The center, with its eight acres of gardens, is a sanctuary for those in need. It represents growth, renewal, and resilience, and I'm honored to contribute to its mission.

"Nurture" is not just a painting; it's a tribute to my sister, a reflection of the heartache and the hope that cancer brings. It's a story of love, loss, and an unwavering determination to find beauty in the most challenging moments of life. In the face of adversity, I've learned that holding on to hope, even when it seems distant, can lead to moments of beauty and strength. My journey as an artist is now dedicated to sharing these stories, and this is one of them.

This juried painting, featured in the show "Cancer: Never Give Up," is now available as a limited edition matted or matted and framed print. With every purchase, I’m contributing 25% of the sales to The Virginia Thurston Healing Garden Cancer Support Center, who help improve the quality of life for all those who are affected by cancer.
